Manelka Bernadette Jayasooriya

“I’m a passionate and empathetic counselor with 3–4 years of experience supporting adolescents through academic stress, social challenges, relationship issues, mood difficulties, and more. Currently, I work at S. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia, where I guide students from grades 4 to 12. My journey into psychology began with a deep desire to help others—it felt like a calling—and I’m now preparing to pursue a master’s in forensic psychology. My approach is flexible and person-centered. I believe healing happens in real connection, so I don’t stick rigidly to the book—I adapt to who you are and what you need. I draw from humanistic principles, keeping things honest, warm, and relatable. Outside of work, you’ll find me reading, painting, spending time with friends, or volunteering as a counselor. I bring curiosity, compassion, and a bit of fun into everything I do.”

My primary focus is on adolescent counselling, supporting teens through emotional, behavioural, academic, and social challenges. I tailor my approach to meet the unique needs of each young person, using a blend of evidence-based and creative practices.

– Emotional regulation, behavioural concerns, academic stress, and self-esteem.
– Support with bullying, social issues, relationship challenges, and decision-making
– Person-centred therapy and solution-focused brief therapy to foster self-understanding and goal-setting
– Mindfulness-based practices to build emotional awareness and focus
– Art therapy and ludotherapy (play-based therapy) for creative self-expression
– Social skills training and academic support to enhance school and peer success
– Resilience training to develop coping strategies and confidence
– Narrative therapy to help teens reshape their personal stories and experiences
– Incorporating MHPSS (Mental Health and Psychosocial Support) to ensure holistic, context-sensitive care
